Disability Conversations is about stories, real-life stories.

Why stories?
Because stories are powerful. Behind each story is a real-life experience of a real person. Stories shed light on how people’s lives are impacted by disabilities.
Because stories are the undeniable facts of people’s lives, their experiences, their emotions, their tears and laughs, their triumphs and heartaches, and their hopes and dreams.
Because stories give us perspective. When we read other people’s stories, we enter their world. We feel what they may have felt. We see things through their lens.
Because stories help raise our awareness and give us understanding. We learn about the struggles and challenges of people around us. We grow to appreciate the uniqueness of each person. We develop a heart of compassion.
Because stories help us understand that we are interdependent with one another. No story stands alone by itself. Our stories are interconnected with others’ stories. Our lives are intertwined with others’ lives. Our stories have an impact on those around us.
So, why stories?
Because stories are important, stories matter.
Disability Conversations is not only about sharing our past stories. But it is also about creating stories – how we can create a beautiful story together, a story of love, of beauty, and of hope.
